Have you seen the newest version for tracking your children's growth? We just LOVE the ruler growth chart that's popping up everywhere! If you haven't seen it before, check out the pictures below to see what the talk is all about!
We created a decal kit that's for sale in our Etsy shop so you can create your own. Just click here to check it out and purchase: Growth Chart Decal Set . The great thing about a "do-it-yourself" kit is you can customize the backboard to match any decor.
We've had a lot of interest in our growth chart decal set so I wanted to take you through a step-by-step tutorial of how to complete this simple project. Personally, I have made 4 of these so far (some for gifts and one for my son) and once you get the hang of it, the project is pretty easy! After your board is prepped and ready to go, it will take you between 45 minutes and an hour to apply the decals.
Here's what you get with your decal kit:
Here we go!
1. Purchase a 1 in x 8 in x 6 foot pine board
from your local lumber supply warehouse.
Make
sure to select a board that is straight and will sit nicely against the wall.
2. Sand any rough edges or corners.
3.
Paint or stain the board to your
liking. Allow to dry at least 24 hours
before applying the vinyl decals.
4. Once board is prepped and ready, take
measuring tape and mark off the intervals with a pencil.
***Please
note*** We recommend starting your measurements and 6 inches. This will allow for the board to be displayed
above the base board trim. If the board
end started at 0 inches, it would need to be mounted directly against the floor
and this is not ideal for most décor applications.
5. It’s easiest to measure out the foot
markers first with a tape measure (mark with pencil), making sure they are accurate, then measure the smaller
increments off with a 12 inch ruler.
This allows for better accuracy with the decal placement.
6. To apply the measure markers, just peel
from vinyl backing and attach end or decal to edge of board. It helps to just let the decal “fall” into
place so that it will be straight on the board.
However, if the decal doesn’t go on straight, it’s fine to peel it off
and try again (we also include several extra lines in our kit, just in case :o)
Use your ruler to make sure the lines are straight.
Here's what it looks like with all the lines in place.
7. Once all your line markers are on, apply
the numbers to the foot marker lines.
8. Lastly, apply the name using transfer tape
to keep letters straight (this is the clear
layer of tape over the vinyl – refer to other instructions for this
step). It is helpful to apply the word
“Supply” first so that the p’s and y do not hang off the board.
9. Make sure all decals are securely attached
to the board by rubbing firmly with fingertips.
Hope you LOVE your new growth chart! Use a single one for the whole family or make an individual one for each child. The best part? It comes with you if you move!
Enjoy and hope your day is full of Simple Blessings!
